Summer Eye Protection

How to choose the right sunglasses and how to avoid eye infections.

During summer, whether enjoying holidays, day trips, or staying home, it’s crucial to protect our eyes from seasonal risks to avoid health issues.

Sun Radiation: Choosing the Right Sunglasses

Sunglasses are essential for protecting our eyes from harmful solar radiation, not just fashion accessories. Key features to look for include:

  • CE marking indicating quality control approval.
  • UV protection, marked with an acronym like UV400 to filter harmful rays.
  • Appropriate lens darkness, indicated by a number code (1 to 4), suitable for different activities.
  • Buying from reputable stores with specialized personnel ensures the right protection, especially important for children's delicate eyes.

Dealing with Dry Eyes

Air conditioning and fans, common in summer, can dry out the eyes. To avoid discomfort, avoid direct exposure to these cool air currents. Eye drops, particularly those containing hyaluronic acid, can help moisturize the eyes. Preservative-free drops are recommended, especially for frequent use or for contact lens wearers.

Underwater Hazards: Chlorine, Salt, and Microbes

Water from pools, seas, or rivers can irritate or infect the eyes. To prevent issues, avoid opening your eyes underwater or use approved swimming or diving goggles. Contact lens wearers should avoid swimming with lenses to prevent irritation and infections from chlorine, salt, and microorganisms.

By following these precautions, you can enjoy a safe and healthy summer for your eyes.
